The Palace of the Postmaster General was home to the holder of this position, created by the king D. Manuel I. One of the most important positions of the Portuguese crown, the Postmaster General was one of the richest men in the country.
This grand 18th century palace, normally not open to the public, houses one of the finest collections of decorative arts of the Portuguese baroque.
Palácio de Xabregas
Built in the 16th century by Tristão da Cunha, the first viceroy of India, this palace was later home to queen Leonor and also to the conspirators that restored the independence of Portugal.
